HELPFUL HINTS
When planting, dig the hold wide enough
to accommodate the rose plant. Spread
the roots out, prune off any broken
parts, then, back fill over the roots
with soil, being sure to keep the graft
at soil line. Settle soil about the
plant by watering and continue to back
fill with soil. Lastly prune stems leaving
10-12”. Always cut stems with
the buds to outside to allow for plant
expansion. Water plants when needed.
Fertilize as leaves expand. Spray foliage
with Daconil or Bayleton fungicide every
two weeks throughout the season to prevent
disease. As blossoms fade, remove them
by cutting the stem back to a leaf pattern
with 5 leaves. This will allow new buds
to form and flower in about 6-8 weeks.
Watering Plants:
To keep plants healthy they need water.
Avoid watering during heat of the day
or during periods of high winds, as
water is lost through transpiration.
The preferred time of day for water
application is early morning, as there
is low evaporation loss, better pressure
and less demand on community water.
The next best time is late afternoon,
but avoid allowing leaves to go into
the night wet, which would lead to increase
the spread of disease in turf and plant
foliage.
