HELPFUL HINTS
The amount of water for a 1000 sq.
foot area of lawn is approximately 620
gallons of water for a soaking. It will
take about 97 minutes with 5/8-inch
hose to apply this amount of water.
Whenever watering, apply enough water
to soak the root zone. Infrequent tough
deep watering applications will allow
grass plants to develop deep roots,
better suited to conditions of water
stress, seasonal weather conditions
as well as plant establishment.
Conserving water in the landscape:
There are several way to conserve water
in the landscape:
1) Use trickle or drip irrigation for
flowers, trees, shrubs and vines. This
type of irrigation will reduce water
demand by 20-50% because of the direct
application of water in the root zone
where needed. Drip irrigation operates
under low-pressure of 5-7 pounds per
square inch and will cut into house
water pressure of 40 PSI or more. It
can be adapted to all types of gardens.
The best advantage is that it can be
installed under mulch where it will
deliver water slowly and soak deeply
into soil. Timers for precise calibration
for specific plantings can set the amount
of water flow.
