HELPFUL HINTS
These plants are available balled and
burlapped or in containers. Boxwood
roots require cool moist conditions
and should be planted in well-drained
soil and mulched. However, the roots
are close to the surface and can dry
out easily. As a plant it will grow
in full sun to shade, but should be
protected from drying winds. They cannot
stand low temperatures.
New plantings should be protected from
summer sun with an application of an
antidessicant or shade netting. The
roots should be protected from drying
sun and wind, and cultivation should
be refrained.
Boxwood is prone to a few insects that
feed on foliage, such as leaf miner,
boxwood mite, mealy bugs and scale.
The biggest problem is with the drainage
in the root system. If the roots become
dry, the foliage will change color and
the plant will look unhealthy. Boxwood
with proper moisture will thrive in
Connecticut gardens.
