Consider Annuals for Garden Color:
Annual flowering plants can add much
to a garden due to their varied characteristics
of colors, flowers and foliage. They
are adaptive to hanging pots, patio
and bedding plantings and to trellis
gardens.
Since annual plants flower on new growth,
here are some thoughts to keep them
blooming all summer:
1) To promote bushy growth so that
the plant stays compact, pinch back
the growing tips of the seedlings when
you plant them.
2) Remove any branches that make the
plant look leggy or out of shape.
3) Deadhead all flowers as they go by.
4) If growing annuals for foliage deadhead
any flowers to keep the plant compact.
5) Fertilize and water on a continuous
basis throughout the season. Use a slow
release fertilizer such as Osmocate
to minimize time fertilizing. Install
a drip system for ease of watering and
conservation of water.
Annuals add variety, color and pleasure
to any garden. Give some character to
your garden by planting them.
